If you are reading this, I am cheering you on.

Sometimes it feels like we’re all in a competition that we are losing. It’s hard to keep up, to hustle fast enough, to prove yourself all the time. It’s hard to believe that you are enough.

That feeling gnawing at us, taunting us that we aren’t good enough, that everyone else is better than us, that we don’t deserve to be here, echoes louder and louder and louder until it’s all we can think about. Until sometimes, we even believe it.

Let me tell you a secret, one that took me a long time to figure out: the truth is we all feel that way from time to time. Yes, even the person who seems to all have it together. Even the person for whom everything seems “effortless.” Like it all happens easily for them. Even the one you are picturing right now.

The secret is to not let that voice become our whole story. That voice telling us we don’t belong isn’t the narrator; we are.

I am grateful you are a part of our Georgetown community. I am cheering you on because I know that hope is a team sport. Sometimes it takes a team to remind us that we are not alone, even when we feel that way. Sometimes it takes a team to remind us that we are a better community because each one of us is a part of it. Because YOU are a part of it.

I’m glad that you are here, and I am cheering you on.
