If you’re reading this, join us in welcoming the newest members of our team.

We are excited to welcome six new members to our IfYou’reReadingThis team! Learn more about them and their roles below:

Hi everyone! My name is Addie, and I am so grateful to be able to serve as the peer contact for the IYRT team! I applied for IYRT during my first year while struggling with grief and being an out-of-state student looking for more outlets on Grounds. After seeing the hope and resources that it provided students around the nation, I knew it was meant for me. As someone who has had their own experiences with personal mental health struggles, it is important for me to know that I am not alone- and the letters that we post do exactly that! I hope that I can be an active member in IYRT and the UVA community by offering support, connection, and love to the student body. If you are reading this, take care of yourself first, and the rest will fall into place.

Hi everyone! My name is Tatum, and I am so excited to join outreach for the IYRT team! As both a student and an athlete, I know how overwhelming it can feel to balance academics, activities, and life in general. It is also easy to think you have to handle it all alone. What drew me to IYRT is the way it reminds us that it is okay to talk about mental health and to lean on others for support. I hope to help continue that mission by collecting letters that show every student on Grounds that their feelings are real, worth sharing, and that there is strength in our stories. If you’re reading this, know that even on the hardest days, you are not alone.

Hi everyone! My name is Abem, and I am excited to join the IYRT as a part of the events team! I found out about IYRT through Instagram and felt connected to the mission of the organization because of my own challenges with mental health struggles. I know how important it is to be able to breathe, especially when there are so many things going on as a college student, so being able to facilitate events that can help people destress is something that I am excited to do! I hope that the events that IYRT hosts this semester bring light to the importance of talking about mental health while also connecting with other people in a relaxing environment. If you’re reading this, you are worthy of rest, healing, and happiness.

Hi everyone! My name is Mia, and I am super excited to join the outreach committee for the IYRT team! I first came across IYRT as an overwhelmed first-year shuffling through the crowds at the club fair. There were so many voices— UVA advisors, other students— all emphasizing how important it was to join clubs, build your resume, and get involved right away. It was a hot day, and I remember feeling lost about where I wanted to put my energy. Then I saw the IYRT booth. With its mirror of self-affirmations and its message of lifting everyone up and connecting all of us together, I knew I had found the kind of community I wanted to be a part of: one that fosters a safe space and advocates for mental health and wellbeing. If you’re reading this, know that it’s okay to feel a little lost sometimes— you’re not alone, and that’s what IYRT is here for.

Hi! My name is Charlotte, and I’m so excited and grateful to be part of the events team for IfYou’reReadingThis! I discovered IYRT during my first year and immediately knew it was something I believed in and wanted to support because of my passion for mental health awareness. College is such an incredible time, full of achievements and growth, but also challenges and setbacks. It’s easy for mental health to get overlooked in an environment like this, but IYRT creates a space where people can speak openly about their struggles and raise awareness. Being part of this club has given me the chance to both unwind and help others do the same, and I’ve loved planning events that make that possible. I’m excited to keep creating and organizing events for IYRT to help us stay connected, to ourselves and to each other. If you’re reading this, remember: you’re doing great, you are enough, and you matter!

Hi everyone! My name is Cindy, and I am looking forward to being the DEI Director for IYRT this year! I first discovered IYRT through my friends’ social media who were past (and current) team members! The organization piqued my interest as someone who has always been a huge advocate for mental health. I always loved listening to people’s stories, each and every one having some sort of emotional impact or learning moment for me. As someone who has also experienced mental health issues and seen how prevalent it is in my family, friends, and local community, especially as a person of color, the mission of this organization really spoke to me. For me, IYRT is a safe place to be, and I wish to continue and inspire that presence through our letters, events, and social media. My goal is to have stories from people of marginalized backgrounds represented more, so stay tuned! If you’re reading this, embrace your story as you deserve to be proud of who you are.
