If you’re reading this, we want you to know that being part of Kappa Delta Rho at West Chester University has taught us something many people don’t see from the outside. Even in a fraternity built on brotherhood, mental health struggles are real. The pressure to lead, succeed, stay social, and always look like we have it together can weigh heavily on any of us. Sometimes the expectations on campus, within Greek life, or just in everyday college life create a kind of quiet heaviness we don’t always know how to talk about. And it’s not just a ΚΔΡ thing; this is something students and fraternity members across campuses everywhere go through.

But in ΚΔΡ, we’ve learned that brotherhood is more than a word we put on a banner. It’s the late-night check-ins when someone hasn’t seemed like themselves. It’s the group chats that turn into real conversations. It’s realizing that vulnerability brings us closer, not farther apart. When one of us struggles, the rest step in. Sometimes we step in with advice, sometimes just by listening, sometimes by literally sitting beside someone until the weight feels a little lighter. We encourage counseling, we lean on campus resources, and we try to remind each other that needing help is not a weakness. It’s human.

If you’re reading this—whether you’re in a fraternity, reading from another campus, or just trying to make sense of your own mental health—you deserve to feel seen. Struggling doesn’t make you weak. Reaching out doesn’t make you a burden. You are not alone. To the fellow brothers of ΚΔΡ, and to anyone who’s felt like they’re dealing with this on their own: we’re here. Lean on someone. Let someone in. Because together, in a real, honest community, there’s healing.
-The Brothers of Kappa Delta Rho, West Chester

I’ve struggled with my mental health in the past, but being able to lean on my brothers for advice or just having someone to sit with me has really helped me. Life can get overwhelming, but knowing that there are more people just like me who struggle with their mental health makes me feel seen and understood. Struggling shouldn’t be something you do alone; it should be with the people who are closest to you. Being in ΚΔΡ has created a larger circle of people whom I can turn to, and it has strengthened my ability to get help when I need it.
-Ethan M, Vice President

ΚΔΡ has made a huge impact on my life. Since I’ve joined, I’ve made lifelong friends who have supported me through difficult times. Joining a fraternity allows you to create a safe place where you can get your mind off the hardships of life for a while. Without ΚΔΡ, my academic performance, mental health, and physical health would not be where they are today. For that, I am forever grateful to call myself a brother of Kappa Delta Rho.
-Michael W, President

ΚΔΡ is a source of confidence and support for me. It’s a place that gives me a feeling of belonging and acceptance. I know my brothers are there for me in any situation, just as I’m there for them. I feel like my brothers are my brothers, each and every one of them an extension of my family.
-Calvin S, Brother

I struggled with mental health problems throughout high school and was never able to open up about it with anyone at all. I never felt comfortable sharing my troubles until meeting my brothers, who make me feel heard and understood.

Being part of a fraternity at West Chester University, or more specifically, ΚΔΡ at WCU, has given me a strong support system that has helped me stay grounded through one of the toughest times in my life. With the passing of my grandmother and my dad having an untimely stroke, it was hard for me to stay myself and hard for me to stay happy. Having brothers I could lean on, talk to, and be around kept me from feeling alone during a really overwhelming time. This is what I especially need during this time, as it was probably the hardest time in my life. Their support has played a huge role in helping me keep my mental health steady.
